All Sports Booster Club Meeting Minutes

August 25, 2009

Attendees: Cindy Murdick, Sally Borello, Alison & Paul Eischens, Dave King, Patrick Judge, Jen Berkley, Theresa Duell, Monique Velez, Sandy Nelson, Patricia Lorenzana, Patrick & Michele King, Sandy Markle, Mary Van Brunt, Gwen Moody, Shari Peterson, Mike Candelarin, Donna Hope, Chris Perry, Michael Wollbrinck, Cynthia MacQuarrie

7:00 PM Meeting called to order by Cindy Murdick, President.

Introductions of new board members and attendees

Cindy Murdick – President - Board is open to new ideas and suggestions. Booster Club is a sports organization that supports all sports and will give out money to support all sports. The proper way to request funds for a sport is to bring your request to the coach for his submittal to Donna Hope and Chris Perry. Once approved by them, Chris will submit a request to the Booster’s board. Booster Club supplements the money that ASB cannot support.

The entrance fees collected at the football and basketball games goes to the ASB.   The All Sports Booster Club makes their money by membership donations and Snack Shack sales.

Membership cards admit 2 adults and 2 non-Leigh HS students to all home games.

We encourage all parents to volunteer to help out with the Snack Shack and BBQ duties at home football games and not rely on the football parents to help out, since the money raised from the Snack Shack goes to all sports and not exclusively to football.

The Fall Sports are listed as: Cross Country, Field Hockey, Football, Tennis and Volleyball

If there is a request for a big ticket item, Donna Hope will ask the District first to see if they will approve the request and also contribute funds for such request.

In June we purchased a new score board for the gym for basketball, wrestling and volleyball. It should be delivered and installed soon.

Basketball Snack Shack money goes to Boosters Club, except for tournaments.

The Snack Shack is not exclusive to football games. You may request for your sport to utilize the Snack Shack to raise money for your team.

Liz Lewis will be our Snack Shack / BBQ chair again this year.

Paul Eischens – Treasurer – Reviewed Treasurer Report

Early withdrawal from the current CD has a $25 penalty

We currently have a balance of $79,282.26.

Chris Perry – Athletics Director – Mandatory Parent meeting for all students in Fall Sports to be held on Thursday, Aug. 27th at 6:00 pm. Every coach was supplied a letter to give to their team to hand out to parents. Parents who cannot attend this meeting must call Donna Hope and arrange a time for an alternate meeting. If the parents do not show for that scheduled meeting, the student may be pulled off the team.

There will be a Winter and a Spring sports meeting for the parents who have students on these teams. If you have a student playing on multiple sports, parents need only attend the coach meetings.

Leigh HS welcomes the following new coaches:

Matt Largo - Girls Varsity Volleyball.  Matt comes to us from a number of places which includes Lynbrook HS and summer club teams.  He is a graduate of San Jose State Univ. and Gilroy HS.

Patrick Judge - Boys Varsity Basketball.  Patrick is an experienced coach who has coached at both Santa Teresa HS and Valley Christian HS.

Ed Harris - Girls JV Basketball.  Coach Harris has a tremendous amount of coaching knowledge and has been an assistant at both the high school and junior college levels.  Ed's most previous stop was at Ohlone Jr. College.

Gym has been completed – New floors, acoustics, tiles, panels, etc.

Practices are well underway. Exciting time of year!

Donna Hope – Leigh Principal – We need to work together to keep our gym looking nice and clean. Food is not allowed in the gym.

We have broken ground for the new Performance Arts Center. Construction is with the circle of the parking lot. We will no longer have that drop off point and turn around.

Students who drive to school must park in the back lot through the gate. Parents need to drive into the parking area in front of the library to drop of their students or in front of the office.

Construction on girl’s locker room will begin shortly. Girls will use the old band room to change. Once complete, the boy’s locker room will then be renovated.

Discussion regarding night games held at the school. When there are soccer and hockey games held at night, it actually costs the school money because a stadium manager is needed and the lights are expensive to run. However, for football games, the school makes money so it all works out.

For the request of new uniforms for a specific team, Donna must look at how old they are and if the ASB will give money towards the purchase of new ones. Then will there be fundraising efforts and then ask Boosters for money.

We had a fabulous first day of school. Smooth sailing. 1728 students all knew where to go today!

9th graders had their ID/ASB pictures taken and cards distributed to them already.

For all requests, every team should show an effort of fundraising before asking for money. Submit requests 2-3 weeks before the next Boosters meeting. Be specific with the amount you are requesting. Be sure to include tax and shipping expenses.

Parents do not have to pay one penny to have their student play sports at Leigh. The suggested costs are a donation towards the sport. Boosters Club membership is a donation and is not required. There are NO fees at Leigh.

Parents should share their ideas for fundraising efforts with their coach. Each coach has his/her own balance sheets showing expenses and credits.

If anyone has a question, please feel free to e-mail Donna Hope and she will get back to you.

Transportation donations are suggested at $50. We believe the students should travel as a team to and from their away games.

ASB will not pay for any tournament fees this year. The fees may be paid through the coaching budget.

Cindy – Next Booster’s meeting will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 7:00 pm in the library. Booster’s meetings are held on the 4th Tuesday of each month.

Close of meeting at 8:20 PM.
